The University of Chicago-UTCC Research Center was established at University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce in August 2004 in collaboration with the University of Chicago and University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. It is operated to promote high quality research in economics, business and social science by providing a fertile environment for conducting research among research fellows.

The Kingdom of Thailand as well as other potential ASEAN countries will benefit from the Center via data acquisition and coordination and via the policy-based research. Ideally, the University of Chicago-UTCC Research Center and Thailand will become the best regional hub in economics, business and social science research.
The long run plan of the University of Chicago-UTCC Research Center is to become the mechanism for inducing and coordinating the highest possible level of economic, business and social science research. This would happen by bringing together, with a variety of activities and functions, two groups:
Group 2: Talent and expertise of the University of Chicago and potentially other US/European universities.
